In both of our churches, there are gifted individuals and engaging groups that help us to live more deeply into our faith, who can inspire us, teach us, and move us to express ourselves in a variety of ways. This page will focus on some of those folk. If you would like more information on anything you read here, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. And check back often as we highlight different groups or people!
Our New Minister
Cathy Hird grew up in southern Ontario, lived in Montreal,
and then moved to Grey county where she has farmed and ministered since 1986.
She has served the rural congregations of Nottawa, Zion-Rob Roy, and St.
Andrews Ripley, the First Nations congregation at Cape
Croker/Neyaashiinigmiing, as well as the congregation of Division Street in
Owen Sound. After supporting their amalgamation to become Georgian Shores
United Church, she spent four years working at Palgrave United Church.
With her family, she runs a small sheep farm near Walters
Falls. Cathy has two published novels with a third coming out in August 2017.
She also writes short stories and publishes a weekly spirituality column with OwenSoundHub.org.
Bulletin Cover Art
Each week, we are blessed by the ministry of local artist (and Kemble-Sarawak UC member) Helen Harrison as she creates art to grace our bulletins. Thoughtful, beautiful, and often thought-provoking, Helen's work is based upon the themes for our worship.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
This group meets every second Tuesday each month from 9:30 am to noon at Kemble-Sarawak UC We are exploring how we can support and care for others using our talents and time with quilting, crochet or knitting - and prayer. We have already presented many Prayer Shawls to comfort those in need, and look forward to continuing this ministry in our community. Anyone with an interest in making a Prayer Shawl is welcome to join us, and we are happy to help you learn a craft. Contact us to learn more.
Early in 2012, after experiencing a number of pastoral concerns in the charge, a group of ten women met to form the 'PCPC' - Pastoral Charge Prayer Circle. We have each committed to adding prayer concerns from the charge to our own practices of prayer each day or whenever we pray. This group will be reconnecting very soon.
Kemble Kids Playgroup ~ Kemble-Sarawak UC Wednesdays at 10:00 am
Children and their caregivers gather together to play, sing and enjoy conversation every Wednesday morning. On the last Wednesday of each month, they participate in a Mom and Child Yoga Session! All moms and caregivers with kids are welcome!
The Gift of Music
The Georgian Bluffs are full of musical talent - and our churches are no exception to that rule! We are lucky to have many talented musicians in each of our churches, who bring years of experience and enthusiasm to their musical leadership. Each of our congregations sing with strength and joy from both Voices United and More Voices, the two newest hymn books in the United Church of Canada. At the piano at Zion-Keppel United Church is Violet Hill, who is a busy musician away from the church as well. At Kemble-Sarawak United Church, the congregation and choir are ably led and accompanied by Colleen Danard and Mary Ellen Parsons. The choir sings each Sunday, practicing prior to worship at 9:15 and is always open to new members!
Service with a Smile - United Church Women
Every first Wednesday of the month, an energetic and faith-filled group of women meet at Kemble-Sarawak United Church as members of the Kemble-Sarawak United Church Women. They work together, learn together, pray and play together. They also serve together, whether that service is providing dinners to the Kemble Lion's Club, or arranging to decorate the church for different seasons and events, or organizing the readers and ushers for worship. And it is all done with a smile! If you are interested in joining this group, please contact us at email@example.com
